Programs at St. Anthony School
Extended School Day Program
Students in grades 6-8 participate in a longer school day, receiving academic instruction for an extra 90 minutes daily. The extended class time from 2:30-4:00pm is used exclusively for reading, mathematics, social studies and science. Educational research and statistical data reported from schools across the country indicate that extending a school day provides additional time for instruction, increases student achievement, bolsters enrollment, strengthens parental support, and focuses students and teachers on academic excellence.
Creative Classrooms Visual Arts Program
St Anthony School (SAS) participates in Creative Classrooms, a visual art program comprised of art instruction, museum visits, and student art exhibitions. Creative Classrooms fosters creativity, literacy, and critical thinking by engaging students in making art and in discussing and writing about the process. All art projects are closely tied to the academic curriculum. The students participate in a studio art program, in which they attend one studio art class per week. They make art, reflect on their artistic creations in writing and speech, and explain the personal significance of their work.
